Join Extinction Rebellion Nova Scotia on Monday, October 7th for a takeover of the MacDonald Bridge to demand that the key decision-makers #ActNow on the Climate and Ecological Emergency we are facing. In June 2019, Canada declared a Climate Emergency. Three months have passed. The Emergency has not. It is time to #Rebel4Life. This letter was sent to Stephen McNeil, Premier of Nova Scotia, on September 30, 2019: Premier McNeil, We are Extinction Rebellion. On Friday, School Strike 4 Climate, Extinction Rebellion, the Water Protectors, and multiple environmental and social justice groups mobilized 10,000+ people in Halifax calling for Climate Justice Now! We have 3 Demands: 1. Tell the Truth about the Climate/Extinction Crisis 2. Act Now (because the science is real) by implementing the following demands. Our Immediate Action Demands for Nova Scotia (30 Sept 2019): ● Close the Alton Natural Gas Storage Project by Fri, 4 Oct 2019, ● Enforce the Northern Pulp Boat Harbour Project Deadline of 21 Jan 2020, ● Closure of all Coal, Gas and Biomass Generators by Mon, 22 Mar 2021 and replacement with Renewable Energy from Solar and Wind. 3. Create a citizens’ assembly to oversee the Nova Scotia Legislative Assembly. You have the authority to shut down the the Alton Natural Gas Storage Project by Friday, 4 October 2019 as step 1 of our Green Energy Pathway and return the Sacred land at the Shubenacadie River to the Mi’kmaq People. Your time for Action has come. Extinction Rebellion Nova Scotia ------------------------ We will stand together as a global family in an International Rebellion to grieve the suffering and destruction of our world. It is time to rise up and rebel to show the need to protect the only home we have. We need you there with love, compassion and determination. This is part of the Canada-wide #BridgeOut action to demand that the Canadian government #ActNow on the climate crisis. From the Halifax to Vancouver, we will stand together on bridges all over the country in peaceful, festive and non-violent actions to make our voices heard. At 7:00am we will gather at (location TBA) and march to the bridge starting at 7:30am. Cyclists and Pedestrians will not be blocked from crossing the bridge. (at least, not by XR) If you are interested in helping us organize please message us. We are all volunteers trying to stop this climate crisis - we need all hands on deck and all experience levels are welcome! Please go to the link below to let us know you’ll be joining. We’ll see you on the bridge! To find more about Extinction Rebellion and our demands please go to: Here in Nova Scotia, we are also in a settler/colonial context, and therefore also have a demand for full respect for Indigenous rights and sovereignty, in addition to the international XR demands. Nova Scotia is in Mi'kma'ki, the traditional and unceded territory of the Mi'kmaw people.
