details:

The town of Lytton, BC has been burned to the ground. The ocean is on fire in the Gulf of Mexico. We are Bridging the Gap so everyone understands the connection between; destroying our forests and the resulting heat waves we are experiencing. Ecological destruction directly feeds our climate emergency. -------------- Rally at 2PM Seaforth Peace Park (South of Burrard Bridge), and then we march onto and occupy Burrard Bridge. -------------- Are we going to wait till they have chopped down the last old growth tree before we act? Are we going to wait until another town burns up in flames? The Canadian government continues to allow billionaires to: clear cut our old growth trees and build new oil pipelines. The greed of the elites must be stopped before our planet is in ruins. This is the time to build pressure against the Canadian government and escalate our civil resistance. By choosing to wait and do nothing we are making the decision to contribute to the crisis. We act in solidarity with Fairy Creek. The heat that these forest defenders are dealing with day after day while fighting for our old growth is almost unbearable. The old growth is essential to forests in their resistance to fire. The heat wave we are experiencing will only be exacerbated by the deforestation they are fighting against. Heat waves disproportionately affect BIPOC and low income communities, intensify structural inequalities, and allow the rich to continue extracting resources. Hazards such as wildfires and extreme heat events are byproducts of the climate crisis and there are human costs. As we have seen over 700 deaths in the past week (as of July 2) - 70 new wildfires on July 1st alone - 9 wildfires of note there will be more casualties to be expected if we conduct business as usual. Please wear a face mask and physically distance. We gratefully acknowledge that this action will take place on the unceded and stolen land of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the xwməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations
