FORUM ON CLIMATE AND AGRICULTURE Challenges & Opportunities An educational event sponsored by the Windsor County Farm Bureau When: November 20th , 5:00-6:30pm Where: Hartland Public Library, Hartland VT Who: Anyone interested in learning more about climate change and its impacts on land management in our region What: A panel of experts will convene to discuss the challenges and opportunities climate change brings to our agricultural sector. Time will be set aside for Q&A at the end of the discussion. Please come and join us for an evening of discussion about the most critical issue of our times. Our panel of experts will discuss the science of climate change and its current and forecasted impacts on our region’s agriculture. We will examine the challenges to producers and the potential opportunities for farmers to adapt to and help mitigate the problem. Presenters for the Forum on Climate and Agriculture: -Phillip Rice, of Climate Interactive, a not-for-profit organization based in Washington DC. whose team helps people see what works to address climate change and related issues like energy, health, food security, and disaster risk reduction. Phil has a Ph.D. in physiological chemistry from the University of Wisconsin, and lives in an eco-village farm community in Hartland, Vermont. -Alissa White, Agroecological Researcher at UVM. Alissa's research at UVM explores climate resilience and ecosystem services from agriculture. Over the last 15 years, Alissa has worked in program development, grassroots fundraising, farming education and horticulture. She is passionate about sustainable agriculture and dedicated to community engagement. Alissa earned her B.A. in Environmental Studies from UC Santa Cruz, and a MS in Plant & Soil Science from the University of Vermont. -Karl Thideman or Seth Itzkan, from Soil4Climate. Seth Itzkan and Karl Thidemann are co-founders of Soil4Climate, a Vermont-based nonprofit advocating for soil restoration to reverse global warming.
