Global Month of Climate Action officially begins on Friday, April 3, 2020. Join concerned residents of the planet earth who believe in a safe climate and a better future — a just, prosperous, and equitable world built with the power of ordinary people. Help us get there! Tell everyone you know! Take some time out of your day to create a social media post that will help influence the world to protect our planet and it's inhabitants. Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic it is not a good time to be marching down the streets together in a mass protest. So to show your Climate Spirit get the word out there online and in your local area. At high traffic times on Friday April 3, 2020, spend some time taking action on an individual bases and make a post on your favourite social media platforms. We suggest spending some time with a sign at the side of a busy street near your home to catch the attention of drivers. With all of us scattered around the city it might even catch more attention then if we were all together in the same place. Get proof with your camera and then post it online. When posting your climate strike pictures be sure to use the hashtags #Globalclimatestrike2020 #kelownaclimatestrike #climatechange and even #covid19 to get more coverage. Also if you tag any of the event hosts in your post they can then share your posts. Please feel free to share ideas for the strike in the discussion section. Other great resources for the Global Climate Strike can be found at globalclimatestrike.net and 350.org. We look forward so seeing you online! In August 2018, Greta Thunberg began the "Fridays For Future" movement. Canada became the 4th country in the world to join the Fridays For Future movement on November 2, 2018. This will be the seventh national strike. Currently, over 60 communities across Canada have weekly strikes (including Kelowna). It also hoped that Canadians will participate in the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22, 2020.
