Extinction Rebellion Puts Climate Emergency on Trial Courtroom 4A Denver County Court - Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse 520 W. Colfax Ave. Denver, CO 80204 This is a climate crisis. By sitting down in the middle of a busy intersection on Speer Boulevard during the middle of the day on April 20, 2019, during the Extinction Rebellion Spring Rising, members of Extinction Rebellion Denver stood up for all of us, to spur legislators to take immediate action to stave off the threat of human extinction. Merely for raising the alarm, many of these non-violent protectors were unceremoniously arrested by the Denver Police. On 10/7, one of the arrestees is bringing our Climate Emergency to trial. We need to pack the court in support of the necessity defense. When we are in an emergency, the normal rules do not apply, and we morally must do all that we can to avoid extinction. Extinction Rebellion Denver is a local chapter of Extinction Rebellion, a massive global grassroots organization that garnered headlines for its dramatic and successful actions in London, aims to force “[g]overnments [to] tell the truth about the ecological crisis” through non-violent direct action. XR Denver intends to put human-induced climate change on trial and rouse complacent governmental officials to action. On Monday, October 7th, at 10:00 a.m. in Courtroom 4A of the Lindsey Flanigan Courthouse, XR will have the chance to do just that. Attorney Andy McNulty and his colleagues will argue that XR Denver’s non-violent actions were necessary to persuade the government to take action upon the impending threat of climate change. Members of XR Denver, former state legislator Hon. Joe Salazar, and a climate change scientist will testify at the hearing regarding the immediate danger climate change poses to human civilization and the need and efficacy of civil disobedience to draw attention to the climate change emergency. We need you to show up for this historic trial. It is not illegal to stand up against our own demise and extinction - it is the morally correct thing to do! We demand our government tell the truth about our climate emergency and take immediate radical measures to ensure the safety of it's people.
