We are holding a planning meeting for our next actions here in the Valley, at the Abbotsford Clearbrook library from 2 to 4 pm. (Ask for Extinction Rebellion meeting) So far this year we have done a banner drop over the Trans Canada highway, gave a presentation at Cinema Politica in Maple Ridge, did mini road blocks in front of city hall, joined Friday for Futures in the Friday school strikes, presented petition to Abbotsford City Council to demand declaration of Climate Emergency, and co-organized the cross border Peace Arch climate rally. As you may know, we had gone before Abbotsford city council in June 2019. We presented a petition to Abbotsford city council, demanding council to declare Climate Emergency. The council decided not to take any action, not even direct the city staff to review the request. We learned from multiple sources afterwards the council were offended by the use of the word "Demand", and also offended by us saying the city is not doing enough to deal with the climate crisis. Let's put our heads together and plan our next steps. This meeting was originally scheduled for Oct 13 before we realize it is Thanksgiving weekend. We will post the location and time once we make new arrangement for a meeting room.
